CHHS National Honor Society

Membership in the Chapel Hill High School chapter of the National Honor Society is by invitation only. To be eligible, students must have a minimum weighted GPA of 3.800 and 60 hours of service learning credit.

Juniors’ current GPAs will be obtained from school counselors at the end of the first semester (by or before early February). For students with a weighted 3.800 GPA or higher, their number of service learning hours will be obtained from the district coordinator. It is very important for students to submit their service learning hours well in advance (prior to the end of the first semester) and confirm that those submitted hours have been approved and recorded. Questions regarding service learning credit should be directed to Julie Hennis at jhennis@chccs.k12.nc.us.

Students meeting both requirements will receive a written invitation to apply for membership via their homeroom teachers. Completing an application does not guarantee acceptance. Membership in NHS is not a right, but a special recognition and a privilege bestowed upon a student by members of the faculty.

Selection from among candidates is based on the four tenets of National Honor Society membership: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. NHS candidates should demonstrate leadership and involvement in activities both at Chapel Hill High School and in the community. Students must not have received any high school discipline referrals in advance of consideration for membership.
